Sidney Clio Fulkerson - Hoosier by birth, glassblower by trade
February 21, 1884 - June 24, 1931

Sidney had envelopes pre-printed with his return address which read: Sidney C. Fulkerson, Breeder of Red Sussex, Olney,Illinois.

"Daddy had a great sense of humor," his daughter Ruth would later write. "He liked to tell tall stories to the customers with them believing every word. He would come home and tell us about it and nearly die laughing," she writes. "Daddy was a lover of poetry. His favorites were James Whitcomb Riley and Edgar Allen Poe. He read James Whitcomb Riley aloud so we could enjoy it, too. He would throw back his head and nearly die laughing at the poems."

Education was very important to Sidney Clio Fulkerson. To encourage his daughter, Ruth, he bought her a 50-volume set of Harvard Classics and an encyclopedia. He also gave her twelve small volumes of poetry and a rebuilt typewriter from Sears.

His favorite music was Hawaiian. "We also had classical records and I danced through the house like a fairy to that music," Ruth Fulkerson recalls.

Sidney Clio Fulkerson was also a member of the Olney Masonic Lodge No. 140, F&AM, apparently at the invitation of the Taylor men, most of whom were Masons. He served as Master and filled every important other office in the Lodge, including Secretary. He and Tress were both involved. He served as secretary and she enjoyed making refreshments for their events. For one lodge affair, Tress twelve different cakes in one day on a woodstove and, with help, made 500 sandwiches.

"Daddy had pinochle games with his friends at our home quite often," Ruth Fulkerson writes. "He served wine, which he made. We had three grape arbors, blue, white and pink. He also made dandelion wine from the wild ones in our yard. His wine was good, aged and labeled. I got to sample it once.
