Thomas
Taylor
About 1775 - ?
Thomas Taylor was born in the village of Haxey,Lincolnshire, England about 1775. He and his wife, Sarah Townsend,
lived all of their lives in Haxey and had at least one son, George,
who was born in 1811. It was George who would eventually emigrate
to America. Thomas and Sarah are presumably buried in Lincolnshire.

February 21, 1811 - February 17, 1877
George Taylor was born
in Haxey, Lincolnshire, England on February 21, 1811, the son of Thomas
Taylor and Sarah Townsend.
In 1835, he married Frances Crackel from
the nearby village of Epworth, Lincolnshire, England, and, according
to Taylor family records, they emigrated to America from Lincolnshire in
1846. It appears that they sailed from England to New Orleans, then
up the Mississippi, Ohio and Wabash Rivers, arriving in Edwards County,
Illinois in 1847.
Two years after their arrival in Edwards County,
Illinois, George and Frances Taylor were blessed with a son, Henry,
who was born January 24, 1849, in Samsville, Illinois where they apparently
had settled. Samsville is about five miles from West Salem. During
their lives, George and Frances Taylor would have four other sons.
It
is believed that George and Frances Taylor were Methodists. George
died on February 17, 1877, just four days short of his 66th birthday.
He is buried in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in Samsville,Illinois. It assumed that his wife is buried there as well.

January 24,1849 - March 18, 1928
Two years after George
and Frances Taylor arrived in America from England, their son Henry
was born on January 24, 1849 in Samsville, Edwards County, Illinois.
Henry Taylor, my great-grandfather, had brothers.
It is assumed that
Henry was raised in the Methodist Church in Samsville, probably at
the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. His parents are buried in the
cemetery of that church and Henry himself would later be the founder
of a significant Methodist Church.
